Since the second half of the twentieth century, human civilization has entered into a so-called “era of dialogue”. As a result, various kinds of dialogue have thrived – political dialogues, social dialogues, and last but not least, religious dialogues. The practice of dialogue has a long tradition in China and the West. If we look at dialogue from the study of philosophy, dialogue first emerged in ancient Greece, the dialogue between Plato and Socrates has deepened the historical sense of dialogue, at the same time, it encompasses a certain profundity of philosophy. Dialogue is a kind of common wisdom in humanity. It embeds a certain kind of powerful vitality that is pertinent to the shared development of today’s humanity and sustainable development of the future.

Although humans have gone through three thousand years of dialogue, the world is still not at peace. It is still full of all kinds of conflicts, contradictions and hostilities. Therefore, dialogue is an arduous task and the road is long, but dialogue must go on.

The construction of a harmonious society requires a harmonious culture, and dialogue between religions is an important element of a harmonious culture. Once a harmonious culture is built, there would be long term peace and stability in China, which be a major contribution to the harmony of the world. Therefore, our conference carries a unique meaning.
